For some reason that is difficult to fathom, people have a fascination with machines and gadgetry. The more gadgetry there is, the more excited they seem to get. Going along with this there seems to be the irresistible desire to prize everything open and to look inside to see how everything works. Now this is all very well, but it seems to me that if you keep going with this, you might end up with gadgetry disease. What’s gadgetry disease? Well, it’s this. You gradually start to see the whole world and everything in it as a great big machine and then you treat it accordingly. Finally, you start thinking of yourself as a machine and you wonder why exactly it isn’t working properly.
